A member of the Boston Red Sox roster since 2005, Jonathan Papelbon has been their primary closing pitcher since 2006. Although originally intended to be a starting pitcher, Papelbon's recurrent shoulder injuries have kept him as a closer. He is the only Red Sox pitcher to ever achieve two 30-save seasons. Papelbon was selected for the All Star team three consecutive years in a row between 2006 and 2008, and was a member of the World Series Championship team of 2007. To date, Papelbon hold the records for most saves by a rookie closer and most consecutive scoreless innings to start a post season career.
