Born in Japan, this Olympic Bronze Medalist has been a member of the Boston Red Sox roster since 2007. As a starting pitcher, Daisuke Matsuzaka had some adjustmentst to make when he began playing for the American League. Baseballs used in America are larger than those used in Japanese pro ball and have higher seams.
In August of 2007, Matsuzaka broke the Red Sox rookie record for most strikeouts in a season - he ended the 2007 season with a total of 201 strikeouts. Matsuzaka is known for pitching sliders, curveballs, forkballs, two-seam fastballs and four-seam fastballs. |
